Project Context
Located in Luohu District, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen Liwen School covers 20,000 square meters, and has a library with an area of 900 square meters. To offer patron-orientated service and create a welcoming library environment that encourages reading for pleasure, the school partnered with Intech to achieve this goal.
Solution
Liwen School library adopts the customized smart library solution by Intech that has a complete suite of library-managed services from hardware and software to elevate service excellence. It now become a modern, tech-savvy library welcomed by students and faculty.
Results
The library chooses a double-aisle gate to install on the library for entering and exiting. The gate is integrated with the people counter to detect visitors coming and going, which helps the library improve visitors' experience by adjusting the space application and reducing overcrowding. Of course, as an essential part of the library, the security gate also safeguards the library materials from unauthorized removal.
The library lobby is equipped with a self-service kiosk and book bins. Patrons can explore different registration options by scanning membership cards, face recognition, etc. on the self-service kiosk. More importantly, these devices provide independence and convenience in patron’s library interactions by enabling them to self-manage check-outs, returns, reservations, and more. It not only boosts the library circulation process but also elevates the patron’s experience.
The application of staff workstation considerably enhances the effectiveness in promoting library services. Staff use it to handle their daily tasks like cataloging, programming or converting item tags, managing the collection's location, and more. It streamlines the workflow and lets staff reinvest their time to more valuable service.
Apart from the hardware, the library employs the library management system that is developed by Intech. The LMS covers most of the library work, including user management, collection management, circulation management, cataloging, statistics and analysis, etc., which enables the library to have better control over the library operation, provides personalized service for users, and makes data-driven decisions.
